At Ocado Logistics, recognition comes in many forms, including through our Armed Forces Veterans’ Community.
The community was established around five years ago after colleagues recognised the need for a dedicated space where veterans across the business could connect, share experiences, and support one another. What started as a small network has grown into a thriving community for colleagues with a military background, reservists, cadet force volunteers, and allies.
This year, to mark Armed Forces Day, members of the Veterans’ Community took part in SSAFA’s 13 Bridges Challenge. Colleagues from across Ocado came together to walk 10 miles through London, crossing 13 bridges along the River Thames to raise money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.
For those involved, it was about much more than a fundraising walk. It was an opportunity to spend time together, strengthen connections, and support a cause with real meaning.
That spirit of giving back has shaped the community since day one. Over the years, members have come together through fundraising events, community activities, and visits to places such as the Royal Hospital Chelsea, creating opportunities to connect, reflect and support champion causes that support the Armed Forces community.
For Paul, that sense of purpose remains a key part of the group’s mission:
“One of the big things I wanted to achieve was to give back to the community, to look after the community members and the background that we came from.”
That’s what Armed Forces Day is all about. Not just recognising service, but celebrating the connections that continue afterwards. The people who come together, support one another, and use that shared sense of community to make a difference for others.
